Welcome to the Fishbourne Flat Five website.
Welcome to the Fishbourne Flat Five website, The Fishbourne Flat Five 2016 is scheduled to be run on Sunday 24 April 2016 at 10am.
ONLINE ENTRY is now available – Click the Entry Forms and Maps link above or just click HERE.
The Fishbourne Flat Five is one of the most picturesque, scenic and flat cross country races on the south coast for runners and walkers.
The race is held in Memory of Beckie and Lucy Hassell who were tragically killed in a car accident in October 2005.

This year’s beneficiary will be Friends of Fishbourne School (FOFS), which is the parent and teacher charitable association (registered number 1102426) responsible for fundraising activities at Fishbourne CE Primary School. FOFS is run by a group of school parents and teachers/school staff that raise money for much needed resources at the school.
FOFS are thrilled to be the beneficiaries of this year’s race. All proceeds will go towards refurbishing the library for the benefit of the current and future children of Fishbourne CE Primary School. The library is used by children from Reception Class up to Year 6 on a daily basis and offers the opportunity for children to borrow books and research information for their classwork. It is also a quiet space to read and work, with some of the school’s extracurricular clubs being run within the library space. However, the current provision is out dated and FOFS are hoping to create a bright, inviting space to stimulate all the children’s learning at Fishbourne CE Primary School.
Please support us by participating in the event, in any way you feel you can. You can walk or, if over 17, run or if you think 5 miles is too far, you can participate in our scavenger hunt which takes place over the last half mile and is aimed at the younger children. We’d love you to collect sponsors too or if you prefer, you can make a charitable donation.
We also need help to assist the Fishbourne Flat Five in running the event, so if you or anyone you know can spare some time either in advance or on the day itself, please let us know.
You can help out in the following ways:
- Pre-event administration (eg assisting the committee with co-ordinating helpers)
- Marshalling (eg car parking, race, walk)
- Taking photos around the event
- Organising and running a Key Stage 1 and pre-school scavenger hunt
- Making/buying and serving teas, coffees, juice and cakes at the end of event
- Helping out on the start desk (eg handing out runners numbers, taking entry money and forms from people who enter on the day)
- Putting flyers around the local area
- Helping out on the walk finish line (eg handing out certificates and medals and lots of cheering!)
- Manning water stations around the route
- Sponsorship (eg water, children’s medals and certificates)
This really is a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to come together and more special as the children themselves would play a very big part in helping to ensure that the legacy of Beckie and Lucy will continue. Both Beckie and Lucy attended Fishbourne CE Primary School.
So please, if you can help in any way, or you would like to know more, FOFS would love to hear from you. Please , or speak to your class rep or a member of FOFS if you’re at the school.
